More than half a million cyclists across Europe have already adopted the Hövding airbag, which is designed to offer enhanced protection in the event of an accident. Now iSi Wearable Safety, together with the iSi Automotive Group, is taking the product to a new level, integrating advanced artificial intelligence technology to optimize performance. Additionally, the latest iteration will adhere to the highest automotive industry standards, guaranteeing quality, safety and reliability.

A new technological start

Hövding 4 will mark the start of a new chapter in innovative head protection for all cyclists in urban areas. It is not a helmet. It’s an airbag.

Following the takeover of the Hövding brand by the iSi Group, the product technology is being completely redeveloped – based on the highest safety standards from the automotive industry. Instead of a simple update, the result will be a completely new airbag for cyclists: Hövding 4.

The product in focus

The Hövding is worn as a collar around the neck and remains invisible in everyday life – until it matters: In the event of an accident, the integrated sensor system recognizes the hazardous situation and triggers an airbag within milliseconds, which wraps around the head and neck like a protective hood.

Hövding 4 development is based on tried and tested automotive technology – for a new level of safety in urban cycling.

Ownership change

Since 2024, Hövding has been part of iSi Automotive – an international technology company headquartered in Austria with many years of experience in the development and manufacture of airbags for the automotive industry. From July 2025, Hövding will be managed under the newly founded company iSi Wearable Safety.

The close connection to the automotive organization will remain, especially with regard to technological expertise. With Hövding 4, iSi is transferring this expertise to cycling for the first time. The aim is to noticeably increase the level of safety for cyclists – through tested quality, industrial precision and transparent development processes.

Is Hövding 3 still safe to use?

As iSi was not involved in the development or production of Hövding 3, we cannot give an official recommendation to buy. To the best of our current knowledge and based on the tests and approvals originally carried out, the protective effect of Hövding 3 still corresponds to the safety level defined at the time.

I have a Hövding 3 that no longer works and is within the warranty period. Will my claim be accepted?

iSi is not the manufacturer of Hövding 3 and therefore accepts no responsibility for product versions prior to Hövding 4. However, when introducing Hövding 4, our aim is to offer existing Hövding 3 users a transition to the latest version at a reasonable price.

Why did the original company go bankrupt?

Despite strong product innovations, the former company faced significant financial challenges as sales in key markets were temporarily halted. These sales stops had lasting economic consequences, which ultimately led to insolvency.

I have heard that Hövding 3 has been banned – what happened?

In Sweden, the consumer protection authority temporarily stopped the sale of Hövding 3 due to safety concerns. The company at the time took legal action, after which the sales ban was finally lifted. By this time, however, the company had already gone bankrupt, so sales could not be resumed.

Why has the Swedish Consumer Agency discontinued the product and have you clarified the reasons for discontinuing the product?

The Swedish authority expressed doubts as to whether the product reliably fulfills its promised protective effect. iSi has examined these points of criticism in detail and is addressing them specifically in the development of Hövding 4.

Who is iSi Automotive and what is its role?

iSi Wearable Safety is the owner of the Hövding brand and all associated rights and patents. Together with iSi Automotive – the experienced development partner for airbag systems – the new Hövding 4 is being developed and produced. This collaboration means that decades of expertise in automotive safety technology will flow into the next generation of the airbag bicycle helmet. The aim is to bring Hövding 4 onto the market as a safe and reliable companion for urban mobility.
