Hövding in action

Johan, a 20-year-old student from Uppsala, was cycling to the university as usual early on a Wednesday morning in December. It was freezing cold and the front pages of the newspapers had warned people about icy road conditions. This time, as he went through the roundabout where he had cycled so many times before, something unexpected happened.

Johan tells the story: “I was cycling through the roundabout and when I made a tight turn to the right, my bike suddenly lost its grip on the slippery rode. The bike went out from under me and I was thrown backwards. The Hövding activated in a fraction of a second and protected the back of my head when I slammed into the hard asphalt. Unfortunately, there’s nothing like the Hövding to protect your back and mine didn’t come out of the accident as well – I still have the bruises from hitting the ground so hard.”

How did it feel when you had the accident?
Johan:  “It was a shock when the bike just disappeared all of a sudden, and I heard a dull thud when the Hövding activated. It didn’t feel weird when the airbag triggered and the helmet protected the back of my head and supported my neck when I hit the ground. It was easy to take off the helmet afterwards, even though my hands were shaking after the accident.”

Will you be buying a new Hövding?
Johan: “For sure! I liked my Hövding and I think it is a smart and good-looking accessory that coordinates easily with whatever I’m wearing. After the accident, I contacted my insurance company and they told me my tenants’ insurance will cover the cost of a new Hövding. All I have to pay is the excess of SEK 1,500.”
