Wearing Hövding
Do I have to restrict my movements when I'm wearing Hövding to prevent the airbag being triggered by mistake?
When you're wearing Hövding you can move exactly the same way you usually do when you're cycling. The airbag won't inflate unless you are in an accident. See also How Hövding works – Sensors.
Can you walk wearing Hövding without the airbag inflating?
Yes.
Can I stop and pick things up from the ground without Hövding inflating?
Yes.
I usually cycle with my dog attached. Will Hövding work if I fall off then?
Yes.
I usually ride on my friend's handlebars. Will Hövding work if I fall off?
Hövding would probably work if you fell off the handlebars but we only guarantee that it will inflate when you are cycling yourself.
Can I use Hövding on a moped, on skis, in a car, on a skateboard, with in-line skates, etc?
No. Hövding is only designed for cycling.
Can children use Hövding?
No. Hövding has a lower age limit of 15.
Is there any upper age limit?
No.
I'm overweight. Does Hövding offer the same protection to everyone whatever their size?
Yes.
How do I know that I've got the right size for my neck and my head?
Hövding is currently available in two sizes; Small (S) and Medium (M).
As far as performance/safety goes, it doesn't matter whether your Hövding is a tight or a loose fit around your neck. The collar sizes currently available (S, M) are both designed for the same range of head sizes: 52 - 59 cm (20 1/2 - 23 inches) in circumference. Choose the size that feels best for you.
Sizing guide:
Small is recommended for neck sizes under 36 cm (14,2 inches).
Medium is recommended for neck sizes between 34-42 cm (13,4-16,5 inches).
If you have a neck size above 42 cm you will unfortunatly have to wait for a Hövding-Large.
If your neck size is between 34-36 cm (13,4-14,2 inches):
Choose Small if you have a long neck and/or prefer a tight fit.
Choose Medium if you have a short neck and/or prefer a loose fit.
How careful do I have to be with my Hövding?
You should treat your Hövding with care as it contains sensitive parts. Hövding has been developed and tested to withstand falls from a height of 2 metres without breaking.
How durable is the collar fabric?
The collar is made in a very high quality functional fabric that is just as durable as the material in ski jackets. The shell will come in a wide range of fabrics.
Can I wear the collar without the shell?
Yes. But we recommend using the shell as well because the collar isn't washable.
Can you attach things to the fabric of the collar with glue or sew them on?
No not onto the collar. That might damage the airbag inside. But it doesn't matter so much with the shell. You can attach your own badges, etc to that.
How bendable is Hövding? Can you pack it down tightly?
You can fold Hövding up and put it in a bag.
How waterproof is Hövding?
Hövding can cope with being worn in the rain but you mustn't wash it or immerse it in water. The removable shells are washable. And the collar itself can be cleaned carefully with a damp cloth.
What do I do if the collar gets dirty?
The collar can be cleaned carefully with a damp cloth. The shell can be washed in the washing machine according to each shells washing instructions.
How long does the battery last?
Operating time is bout 18 hours. Stand by time is about 36 days. If you cycle 30 minutes a day, for example, you'll need to recharge the battery about once every sixth week.
Charging time is about six hours.
How do I switch Hövding on and off?
Hövding is switched on and off using the zip at the front of the collar. There is an on/off switch on the zip tag. Pull up the zip and press the on/off button on the collar to turn Hövding on. Turn it off by pressing the on/off button again.
How do I know whether Hövding is on?
You'll hear a sound and LEDs light up at the front of the collar to tell you that Hövding is switched on. When you turn Hövding off, you'll hear a different sound and the LEDs will go out.
How do I know if the battery is low?
Hövding makes a special "battery low" sound about one hour before the battery runs out.
How much does Hövding weigh?
Ca 700g (about 1 1/2 lbs) without the shell.
Can I sew my own shell and use that with the collar?
No. Offered function is guaranteed only with original shells.
What about shawls and scarves, can you wear a scarf inside/outside the collar?
The instant it is triggered, the pressure from the airbag splits open the upper seam of the collar, allowing the hood to inflate around your head. This means it's important that you keep the area above this seam free and don't cover it with a scarf or similar on top. But you can still wear a shawl or a scarf outside or inside your Hövding.
Air travel
Permission to bring Hövding onboard an aircraft may be restricted. Check the regulations with your airline company.

How durable is Hövding/what is its lifetime like?
The fabric on the collar is the component with the shortest life and the part which will wear out first. You decide from the wear on the collar when it's time to replace your Hövding.
Can you replace parts if they break, e.g. the zip?
No. If your Hövding is broken, please contact our customer services. See "Contact us".
How should I recycle the collar?
Return your collar to Hövding Sverige AB for recycling once it's reached the end of its life. See "Contact us".
In the event
of an accident
Can you still use your Hövding once the airbag has been triggered?
Hövding can't be worn again once the airbag has been triggered and you need to send it in to Hövding Sverige AB for the following reasons:
